Laser Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal for the Bikini Area

Bikini hair removal is one of the most popular areas because it offers an alternative to daily shaving and irritation. Many patients say it helps them feel more feminine and less self-conscious.

Excess facial or body hair can be a nagging cosmetic concern for men and women. While depilatories, shaving, waxing and electrolysis are common solutions for temporary hair removal, they can be very uncomfortable and time consuming. A revolutionary solution for controlling and eliminating unwanted hair is laser hair removal. This cosmetic procedure uses intense laser light to minimize hair growth on the face, back, chest, breast abdomen, arms, underarms, bikini area and/or legs. Laser hair removal offers a long-lasting, convenient and gentle solution to the problem of unwanted hair.

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal uses a low-energy laser to gently remove unwanted hair. The laser energy passes through the skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. In a fraction of a second, the energy is transformed into heat and the hair follicle is destroyed. Quick and convenient, full face, bikini line and underarm treatments may take as little as 15 minutes. Several treatments will be required to destroy hair follicles in different growth cycles. Since the laser targets the pigment of the hair follicle, laser hair removal is most effective on light-skinned patients with dark hair.

Laser Hair Removal for Men

Many men use laser hair removal as an alternative to shaving daily, or to minimize hair on certain areas such as the back, chest and/or neck.

Since no procedure can guarantee permanent hair removal, most patients can expect a major reduction in hair growth, leaving the remaining hair thinner and lighter in color.

Laser Hair Removal for Underarm Hair

Laser hair removal is perfect for the underarm area. Underarm hair is a great place to begin with laser hair removal. If you like the results, you may decide to have treatment on other areas of your body.

Am I a good candidate for laser hair removal?

In general, patients with light skin and dark hair are ideal candidates for laser hair removal. However, darker skinned patients can now receive laser treatments as well. As a rule, the pigment in dark hair absorbs more laser energy, making black and brown hair easier to treat. Light hair, such as blonde, red or gray, contains a pigment that absorbs laser energy less readily, and therefore does not respond as well. Patients with tanned skin from recent sun exposure are not ideal candidates. It’s recommended that they wait until their tan fades before proceeding with laser hair removal.

How many laser treatments will I need?

The number of hair removal treatments required for optimal long-term benefits usually depends on the area being treated, the hair density and the patient’s hair growth cycle. Age, ethnicity, weight, hormones, diet, medication and metabolism all play a part in the patient’s hair distribution, thickness and resilience. Total hair removal usually requires a minimum of six to eight sessions for optimal results.
